The “Developing Capacity, cooperation and culture in overseeing the security sectors of Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia (DECOS)” is a project that seeks to empower parliaments, civil society organizations and other actors in their function of democratic oversight of security, by increasing capacities, enhancing cooperation and fostering a culture of oversight of the security sectors of Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia.

In July 2022, our experts Francesco Giumelli, Pim Geelhoed, and Birgit Snijder-Kuipers participated in the resulting training course “The challenges of Illicit Trade and Organised Crime”, organised by CESS (the Netherlands), ISP (Albania), KIPRED (Kosovo) and IDSCS (North Macedonia).

  • Dr. Francesco Giumelli, ITG coordinator, Associate Professor in International Relations and Deputy Head of the International Relations and International Organization Department gave an introduction to Illicit Trade and what the term relates to.

  • Dr. Pim Geelhoed, Associate Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure, then proceeded to discuss about fighting Illicit Trade with the help of the law.

  • Last but not least, our affiliated expert and Senior Associate at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek N.V. Birgit Snijder-Kuipers progressed the discussion talking about money laundering and its implications.
